What You'll Do

As a Finance Assistant, you will play an integral part in the day-to-day running of the finance department. Your responsibilities will span from reconciling bank accounts and posting purchase invoices to managing credit control functions and assisting with month-end close activities. You will also contribute to the preparation of key financial reports that inform management decisions. Working closely with other members of the finance team, you will help ensure that all processes run smoothly while gaining hands-on experience across various aspects of accounting. Your ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently, maintain high levels of accuracy, and communicate effectively will be essential for success in this role. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working collaboratively within a supportive environment while developing their expertise in finance.

  • Reconcile bank accounts on a regular basis to ensure all transactions are accurately recorded and discrepancies are promptly identified and resolved.
  • Post purchase invoices with precision and timeliness, maintaining up-to-date records that support smooth financial operations across the business.
  • Prepare and process vendor payment runs efficiently, ensuring suppliers are paid correctly and on schedule while maintaining positive relationships.
  • Manage credit control activities by monitoring outstanding receivables, following up with customers as needed, and supporting healthy cash flow management.
  • Assist in preparing financial reports such as aging reports and balance sheet reconciliations for management review, contributing valuable insights into the company’s financial health.
  • Support month-end closing activities by gathering necessary documentation, reconciling accounts, and collaborating with colleagues to meet deadlines.
  • Assist with audits as required by providing accurate information and supporting documentation to internal or external auditors.
  • Undertake ad hoc tasks as needed to assist the finance team in meeting its objectives and responding flexibly to changing priorities.

What You Bring

To excel as a Finance Assistant in this role, you will bring proven experience working within a finance or accounting environment where accuracy and attention to detail were paramount. Your background may include handling general ledger accounts or supporting AP/AR functions. You should feel comfortable using Excel for data analysis tasks—pivot tables and VLOOKUPs should be familiar tools in your repertoire. Your interpersonal skills will help you collaborate effectively with colleagues across departments while your organisational abilities ensure that deadlines are consistently met. A proactive approach towards learning new systems or processes will serve you well here; any prior exposure to platforms like SAP or NetSuite would be helpful but not essential. Above all else, your enthusiasm for building your career in finance within a nurturing team setting will set you apart.

  • A strong foundation in finance concepts including profit & loss statements, balance sheets, journal entries, accounts payable (AP), and accounts receivable (AR) is essential for this role.
  • Confident use of Microsoft Excel is required, particularly with pivot tables and VLOOKUP functions to analyse data efficiently.
  • Exceptional attention to detail ensures accuracy in all aspects of financial processing and reporting.
  • Excellent organisational skills enable effective prioritisation of tasks within tight deadlines while maintaining quality standards.
  • Strong time management abilities allow you to manage competing demands without compromising on thoroughness or reliability.
  • A genuine motivation to learn new skills, grow professionally within the finance function, and embrace new challenges as they arise.
  • Experience using financial systems such as SAP or NetSuite would be advantageous but not mandatory; willingness to learn new systems is important.
  • Previous experience in a similar position such as Finance Assistant or Accounts Assistant would be beneficial but is not essential if you demonstrate relevant knowledge.
