Casualty

Casualty is the multi-award-winning medical drama broadcast on primetime BBC One. As one of the longest-running and beloved TV dramas in the UK, it consistently delves into sensitive and challenging depiction of those on the frontline in the NHS, while continually pushing the boundaries of conventional television week after week. The show’s gritty realism is brought to life in Cardiff by one of the most dedicated and hard-working creative teams, both on-screen and off, delivering high-quality, gritty drama with heart, humour and pathos.

What is an Editorial Trainee?

The Editorial Trainee role is the perfect entry-level role for anyone who’s passionate about soap and scripted drama and looking to explore the different teams within the fast-paced, complex world of the Casualty Editorial Department.

This 12 month opportunity will offer the successful candidate the opportunity to work alongside and learn from one of the most creative and ambitious teams in the world of Drama and will gain an invaluable, structured insight into to the world of script, story and research.

What are the Editorial Trainees Main Responsibilities?

The role of the Editorial Trainee reports to the Story Producer and Script Producer.

The Editorial Trainees Main Duties Will Include

  • Working with and supporting the script, story and research teams
  • Helping to keep a close eye on continuity across the scripts and stories
  • Supporting the communication between the script, story and research teams to ensure consistency and clear communication
  • Stepping-up to help cover leave where appropriate, for roles such as our Assistant Script Editor, Researcher and Script Coordinator
  • Shadowing the process within each department to gain a full understanding of the workflow and responsibilities of each team and the roles within them
  • Undertake all necessary administrative tasks required for the department and team

Are you the right candidate?

We’re looking for applicants who are hardworking and creative with a willingness to learn and an active interest in the world of TV Production, but needing their first step into the world of scripted storytelling.

An enthusiasm for Soap and Drama, especially Casualty, is essential.

We Would Also Require The Following

  • Experience in script work, which can be from academic studies or courses
  • A passion of generating creative ideas and treatments, with experiences of working under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Demonstratable administrative and office organisational skills
  • Knowledge and understanding on how confidential information is handled with tact and sensitivity
  • An understanding that strong communication, negotiation, influencing and persuading skills and the ability to work within a team are vital for this role

Package Description

Contract: 12 Month Fixed Term Contract

Band: A

Location: Roath Lock, Cardiff

**Please note that this is a standard Studios Production contract and potentially can involve up to 55 hours per week **
