Discovery Programme | Watergate Bay Hotel

We’re here to share the joy of Watergate Bay for everyone, now and for the future, and our Discovery Programme has been designed to give you a true, hands-on experience of Watergate Bay Hotel life.

You’ll move across departments, build practical skills, and gain an understanding of how a busy hotel operates.

What to expect

Our Discovery Programme offers a structured, multi-department placement designed to build skills and experience and supports you to carve a clear career path for your future. It will also commence in June.

What we’re looking for

• A positive, proactive attitude
• Enthusiasm for outstanding hospitality, food, and drink
• A curiosity to learn, get involved, and develop skills
• The ability to work as part of a team
• Previous experience in a customer-facing environment (preferred but not essential)

The areas you’ll explore

Housekeeping (2 months)

• Learn the fundamentals of Housekeeping
• Spend time as a Housekeeping Assistant and Porter
• Sharpen your skills by shadowing a Self-Checker and Supervisor

Food and Beverage (3 months)

• Accrue essential service skills across a variety of restaurants and bars
• Equip yourself with the skills to thrive in fast-paced culinary environments
• Develop a true understanding of outstanding guest service

Hosts and House Management (4 months)

• Learn how to make a great first impression
• Explore operations from a leadership perspective
• Discover management through the lens of our Host team

Training and development

Over the duration of the programme, you’ll have the opportunity to gain the following qualifications:

• Barista training
• A WSET Level 1 qualification

You’ll also have:

• Access to training through the Cornwall Hospitality Collective (CHC)
• The opportunity to apply to complete a Management or Supervisory apprenticeship
• A dedicated mentor to support your development
• Time with our Central Team at The Hangar
• Time to explore life beyond the bay in one of our sister locations
