Deputy Director
Supervision (Banking, Trust, Corporate Services and Investment) Department
The Bermuda Monetary Authority (Authority or BMA) is seeking the services of a qualified and experienced individual to work as a Deputy Director within our Supervision (Banking, Trust, Corporate Services and Investment) Department. Reporting to the Director, the post holder will be instrumental in providing strategic oversight and direction to the teams responsible for undertaking risk-based supervision of all licensed entities, including banks, trust undertakings, corporate services providers, investment businesses, fund administrators and the Bermuda Stock Exchange. This includes directing the teams involved in a mix of on-site compliance reviews, off-site analysis of financial and other performance data, and prudential meetings with senior management and boards of directors of licensed firms. In addition, the incumbent will be accountable for contributing to the development and implementation of new or revised policy and/or legislative initiatives. This role involves building and maintaining strong relationships with senior management across the Authority and within licensed entities.
This is a key for the Authority and the postholder will be responsible for, but not limited to:- Providing oversight on all relevant matters pertaining to the Authority’s supervision of the Banking Trust, Corporate Services and Investment Department’s licensed institutions
- Directing and managing key relationships with other regulators
- Directing the preparation of report findings in the area(s) reviewed to convey information to senior management concerning the safety, soundness and compliance with the laws and regulations, pertaining to licensed entities
- Participating in committees as directed by the Director
- Assisting with the development of the annual budget for the effective management of the Department
- Representing the Authority at various local and international meetings, conferences and seminars with regulatory bodies, government agencies and the financial services industry and developing key relationships whilst keeping abreast of industry trends
- Providing thought leadership and change management within the department and the wider Authority
- Leading staff development and performance management of Department staff
- Performing other related work and special projects as assigned by management in accordance with competencies normally associated with the post
- A master’s degree or an equivalent qualification in a business, finance or accounting or a related field from a recognised institution or professional body
- A professional qualification, such as CA, CPA, CFA, FRM or a related risk-based qualification would be an advantage
- A minimum of twelve (12) years relevant postgraduate experience, of which at least seven (7) years should be at a senior level with a financial regulatory body
- Exceptional analytical and communication skills (both written and oral) and highly developed team leadership and mentoring skills
- Experience as a thought-leader as demonstrated through associations, committees, etc.
- Regulatory or relevant industry experience is a must, along with knowledge of international regulatory standards
