An allowance of £5k per annum may be payable monthly while you hold this DV and continue to work in a role that requires that level of security clearance. The terms of this allowance will be made available if you are successful in being recruited into this role.

About the role

This role sits within Cyber Security Operations and supports the security, stability and auditability of Windows and Linux platforms in a controlled enterprise environment. You will identify vulnerability and configuration risks, prioritise remediation and support patch delivery through WSUS and RHEL Satellite.

The role helps BT reduce operational risk, improve compliance outcomes and maintain secure services for customers and internal users. It supports BT's strategy to simplify operations, work smarter with technology and use clear, repeatable controls to deliver reliable security outcomes.

This job role is based in Ipswich. Due to security requirements, this role requires you to be located on site during your working hours. Mon-Fri 37.5. DV Security Clearance is required. Must have lived in UK for 10+ years to obtain clearance.

What you’ll be doing

  • Identify and assess vulnerabilities across Windows Server, RHEL and related platform services.
  • Analyse Nessus and OPSWAT findings, prioritise remediation based on risk and track actions through to closure.
  • Plan, test and support patch management activities using WSUS for Windows and RHEL Satellite for Linux.
  • Maintain and support Active Directory and Group Policy controls that improve platform security and consistency.
  • Support secure configuration, system hardening and regular compliance checks.

  • Troubleshooting
    Able to investigate basic issues logically and follow agreed steps.
  • Escalation Management
    Able to recognise when something is unclear, urgent, or risk-sensitive and escalate appropriately.
  • Change Management
    Understands the need for controlled change, approvals, evidence, and accurate records.
  • Data Analysis
    Able to review patching, vulnerability, and compliance information and identify basic trends or issues.
  • Technical Reporting
    Able to maintain clear updates, records, and evidence for audit, handover, and management reporting.

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Willingness to learn vulnerability management, patching, secure file handling, and compliance reporting processes.
  • Able to follow documented procedures accurately and maintain clear records.
  • Able to manage multiple routine tasks, prioritise workload, and maintain steady progress
  • Able to work independently on agreed tasks once trained, while escalating issues when needed
  • Good attention to detail, especially when handling security, audit, or change control information.
  • Basic understanding of Windows systems, IT support, or cyber security principles.
  • Scripting knowledge an advantage
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
