Job Overview

This role is pivotal in delivering the organisation’s Digital Strategy, transforming digital concepts into clinically led realities that prioritise user experience and improve clinical outcomes. On the back of the ten year plan and the move to one large hospital trust across Bristol, this is an exciting time to join the digital services team.

The post holder will play a key role in ensuring the safe, effective and sustainable operation of the Philips Critical Care Clinical Information System (ICCA) within their Intensive Care Unit. They will provide expert clinical digital leadership to support the ongoing maintenance, optimisation and configuration of the system, ensuring it reflects local protocols, supports high quality care and enables accurate and reliable data capture.

They will act as the first point of contact for ICCA related queries, offering day to day troubleshooting, guidance and system support to clinical teams. A core part of the role is delivering high quality ICCA training and supporting digital confidence across the multidisciplinary workforce, ensuring staff are equipped to use the system safely and effectively.

The post holder will work closely with clinical teams, Digital Services and the ICCA supplier to refine workflows, facilitate service improvements and ensure the system continues to meet the needs of critical care services.

Main duties of the job

  • Act as the unit liaison and spokesperson for all matters relating to the Philips Clinical Information System (ICCA).
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for ICCA queries, issues and system related communication within the unit.
  • Configure ICCA locally for the Intensive Care Unit within system capabilities and in alignment with clinical workflows.
  • Support ongoing optimisation of ICCA to ensure it remains clinically relevant, efficient and aligned with unit requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Critical Care CIS Manager and CIS teams and General Critical Care team, as well as IT Support to coordinate system configuration, upgrades and maintenance.
  • Create and maintain unit specific documentation, guidance materials and reference resources to support consistent use of ICCA.
  • Integrate new clinical equipment into ICCA within product capabilities and operational requirements.
  • Maintain and oversee functional interfaces between ICCA and other digital systems
  • Monitor the laboratory link to ensure accuracy and relevance for the ICU population in collaboration with Critical Care CIS colleagues and laboratory services.
  • Communicate and share system knowledge, best practice and learning with other units and external bodies.

The post holder will have key relationships with the following teams and departments, in both organisations:

Intensive care clinical and operational colleagues, Digital clinical colleagues, Digital Services teams (technology and business intelligence), Clinical Systems teams, Medical and Dental (CCIOs), Patient Safety leads, Modern/Clinical Matrons, Ward Sisters/Managers, Nurses and Midwives, Allied Health Professionals

Education/Training/Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant numerate or related discipline
  • Registered appropriate healthcare professional with current registration

Desirable criteria

  • Recognised teaching, assessing and mentoring qualification or equivalent relevant experience

Work experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of managing CIS or similar digital systems and project delivery
  • Recent experience of working as frontline clinician
  • Confident in using digital clinical systems within day-to-day clinical care
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance and Clinical Risk Management processes
  • Knowledge of local/ relevant organisational policies and guidelines
  • Competence using clinical Digital Systems including: Vitals, Connect, Workspace, PAS, Care Planning

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of working within a Critical Care Environment
  • Familiarity with Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • Research and audit and its application to clinical practice

Management Skills

Essential criteria

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, providing leadership and support as required
  • Ability to work for and be part of a team
  • Ability to manage and deliver complex tasks in a multitasking and interruptive environment.
