Applicants are sought for the position of Crime Standards Officer within the Crime Standards Unit (CSU) based at the CSU office at Crownhill, Plymouth.
CSU is a specialist team of Police Officers and Police Staff located at CSU offices at Police Headquarters (Exeter) Ashburton and Crownhill, Plymouth.
CSU have a quality assurance role to promote, maintain and improve Crime Data Integrity and compliance with the Home Office Counting Rules for recorded crime (HOCR), through reviews of Niche Occurrences, the finalisation of recorded crimes and the application of outcomes. In addition, CSU team members have a Dedicated Decision Maker (DDM) role in relation to crime cancellation and reclassification requests on behalf of the Force Crime Registrar and provide crime recording advice and support to officers and staff.
Crime Standards Officers complete First Stage Reviews of Occurrences within 24 hours of recording, Finalisation Reviews of certain Occurrence types, make decisions in relation to crime reclassification and cancellation requests, deal with requests for advice and guidance from officers and staff and complete Crime Data Integrity related tasks as directed by CSU supervisors and managers.
Some awareness of the HOCR and the National Crime Recording Standard (NCRS) is required, although successful applicants will receive full training and mentoring in post which will provide them with the detailed knowledge required to undertake the role effectively.
