The Role

As an Audit Assistant Manager, you will oversees audit engagements, bridging the gap between seniors and managers by reviewing work, resolving complex issues, and managing team performance. You will liaise with clients, ensure compliance with standards, and contribute to audit planning and reporting. Your role ensures high-quality audits and supports the development of junior staff.

  •  Takes full responsibility for own clients and resource planning in relation to their client portfolio. Ensure assignments are diarised and delivered in line with client deadlines and expectations
  •  Introduction to fee conversations with clients, with the support of senior management
  •  Ensure up to date engagement terms are in place for all active client services, and revise accordingly for any changes in scope or service lines as and when changes arise
  •  Develops a clear understanding of clients’ business, challenges and risks sufficiently to brief more junior colleagues
  •  Identify variations to initial engagement scope at an early stage of an assignment and propose approach and ad-hoc fees for any additional work for director/partner approval, so that full value can be recognised
  •  Demonstrates opportunities to develop value added services for the client
  •  Provides feedback to clients on progress and outcomes of jobs
  •  Holds clients to account on the quality and timeliness of agreed deliverables. Technical Excellence

  •  Review work in progress (WIP) under own control and raise draft fees for approval considering stage of completion and work undertaken

Technical Skills

  •  Seeks to build on the skills and experience gained in their previous role as an advanced senior to develop further and continue learning
  •  Has managerial responsibility for a number of non-complex clients running concurrently, prioritising workload to meet deadlines
  •  Ensures everyone clear on approach / risks / responsibilities at the outset of the audit process and drives objectives for team for their development. Provides timely feedback to individuals on their performance against these objectives
  •  Begins to work directly reporting to partners on jobs within portfolio, taking charge of entire audit file and review of audit teamwork for presentation of both file and client deliverables
  •  Leads points of discussion at client meetings, using knowledge of audit working papers and their results to direct / obtain resolution
  •  Able to identify staffing requirements on large jobs / complex groups taking full responsibility of budget and subsequent tracking of progress to budget
  •  Demonstrate a strong awareness of ethical considerations and key auditing standards including regulatory framework for throughout the audit process including non-audit service fees. Escalates any concerns to engagement lead
  •  Performing manager review of the financial statements prepared by client – ensuring partners are receiving a high-quality final version of financial statements for review
  •  Demonstrates knowledge of current changes within the industry to assist in developing fee proposals for clients, in addition to the use of an informed budget
  •  Attendance at audit committee/board meetings to present audit findings to Those Charged With Governance
  •  Begins to act as ‘main point’ of contact for clients, being reference point for queries throughout the year, not just at the year-end process. Able to act upon such queries via discussion with relevant team members and setting out proposed responses for manager / partner review
  •  Manages findings and reporting on any internal or external quality reviews – including supporting any subsequent root cause or remedial actions as necessary
  •  Maintains commitment to producing high quality work in all aspects of audit work.

Qualifications

Holds an accountancy qualification or qualified by experience (e.g. ACA/ACCA/CA).

Essential Experience

It is expected that the above core and technical skills will have been developed through study alongside work experience in an accountancy practice.
