About the Role:

Balfour Beatty is looking for a vigilant and professional Control Room Operative to join our CCTV Control Room team in Derby.

In this role, you will be responsible for monitoring CCTV and alarm systems, helping to maintain the safety and security of our operations, people, assets and infrastructure. You will play a critical role in identifying, assessing and reporting security incidents, working closely with security teams, emergency services and operational stakeholders.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills and the ability to remain calm and focused in a fast-paced environment.


What you'll be doing


Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor multiple CCTV screens and alarm systems, identifying suspicious or unusual activities.
  • Track individuals, vehicles and incidents across different locations to identify potential threats or security breaches.
  • Analyse live and recorded CCTV footage to support incident detection and investigations.
  • Report security incidents and suspicious activities to relevant personnel, including security teams, management and emergency services.
  • Produce accurate incident reports and maintain detailed records of observations and actions taken.
  • Conduct routine checks of CCTV and alarm equipment to ensure operational effectiveness.
  • Troubleshoot minor faults and escalate technical issues where required.
  • Ensure all surveillance activities comply with data protection legislation and organisational policies.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs, system checks and incident documentation.
  • Support investigations by facilitating access to CCTV footage when required.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams, contractors, security personnel and external agencies.
  • Assist with the onboarding and training of new team members on CCTV systems and control room procedures.

Who we're looking for


Essential

  • SIA Front Line CCTV Licence.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong observational skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and remain calm under pressure.
  • Good IT skills and confidence using CCTV monitoring systems and software.
  • Ability to maintain concentration and vigilance during extended periods of monitoring.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working as a CCTV Operator, Control Room Operative or within a security environment.
  • Experience of incident reporting and surveillance analysis.
  • Knowledge of data protection legislation and CCTV compliance requirements.
  • Experience working alongside emergency services or security teams.
