This position is available as a secondment opportunity until 31/03/2026. If you are a permanent LBC employee, you must have written approval (an email will suffice) from your manager prior to applying and a copy will need to be submitted with your application. In this role, you’ll be responsible for the day-to-day operational delivery of services at the council’s community centres where you will be required to open, close and supervise community centre buildings and ensure the smooth running of bookings, whilst ensuring health and safety, cleanliness of the space which is a welcoming environment for all.

You will be at the forefront of our community-focused services and be the main point of contact for internal and external queries relating to community centre buildings working directly with the public to meet their needs. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve taking bookings, setting up rooms, providing support, signposting and ensuring that everyone who interacts with us feels valued and heard.

Your tasks will include handling complex inquiries with care, supporting community groups in their initiatives, and possibly supervising staff or volunteers. You’ll also manage basic financial duties, such as cash handling and weekly banking, while ensuring accurate data recording and input. Whether you’re working independently or as part of a team, your contributions will be crucial to the smooth operation of our services.

You will also be required to supervise and train Casual staff and volunteers and support administration and business development to improve community centre usage.

About You

To be successful in this role you will need experience of working within a customer facing environment and experience of basic administration and financial procedures.

You must be able to deal politely and positively to communicate with a wide range of people. You’re someone with a passion for community work and a knack for handling a variety of tasks with both empathy and efficiency. Your experience in customer-facing roles has equipped you with the skills to connect with people from diverse backgrounds, including those who may be vulnerable or facing challenges. You’re proactive and resourceful, always ready to find the best solutions to meet the needs of the community and to effectively answer customer enquiries.

This role will need you to be able to support and facilitate training of staff in procedures and routines and organise workload to meet deadlines.

It is essential you are able to use tills, handle money and follow financial procedures by using your existing numeracy skills to undertake calculations and gather statistics.

You will have the opportunity to develop on your knowledge of relevant Health and Safety regulations relating to safeguarding procedures.

You will be required to move items with appropriate aids, stand for long periods of time and be able to work to an agreed rota which.

Your ability to use ICT tools effectively, and maintain a safe, clean environment adds to your capability in this role. Most importantly, you’re committed to fostering an inclusive atmosphere where everyone is treated with respect and dignity.

This is a public facing role so you’ll need to show off your fluency in speaking and writing English
