Clinical Teaching Fellow - #190436
University of Greater Manchester
Clinical Teaching Fellow in Medical Education
Grade 6 | Full-Time | Fixed-Term (12 months) University of Greater Manchester – Institute of Medicine
About Us
The Institute of Medicine at the University of Greater Manchester is an ambitious, values-driven medical school committed to educating the next generation of compassionate, skilled, and ethical doctors. Now in our second year of MBChB delivery, we have moved beyond our founding phase and are building the systems, culture, and professional infrastructure to support a thriving medical school for the long term.
Our students are at the heart of everything we do — and our clinical teaching team plays a vital role in making that commitment real.
The Role
We are looking for talented, motivated clinicians to join our team as Clinical Teaching Fellows in Medical Education. This is a substantive educational role for medically qualified practitioners who are committed to high-quality undergraduate teaching and wish to develop their skills and portfolio in medical education.
Clinical Teaching Fellows contribute to the delivery, development, and evaluation of undergraduate medical education, primarily within Phase 1 (Years 1 and 2) of the MBChB programme. You will deliver and facilitate a range of teaching formats — including lectures, seminars, small group teaching, and practical skills workshops — and supervise students during their early clinical experiences.
You will also contribute to curriculum review and development, provide academic and pastoral support to students, and engage in continuing professional development. Post-holders without a teaching qualification will be supported to undertake a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education as part of the role.
This position offers a genuine training opportunity: the chance to develop teaching and clinical educational skills, gain a recognised teaching qualification for the higher education sector, and build experience for a future career in medical education — all within a supportive and growing Institute.
What We’re Looking For
You will hold a medical degree (MBBS or equivalent), be fully registered with the GMC with a Licence to Practise, and have satisfactorily completed two years of Foundation Training (or equivalent) at the time of taking up post.
You will bring a genuine passion for teaching and a strong interest in medical education, alongside good clinical and examination skills, excellent communication abilities, and the organisational competence to plan and deliver teaching independently.
Experience in teaching or mentoring medical students, familiarity with online teaching platforms, and a grounding in clinical medicine across multiple specialties are all desirable. Just as importantly, you will share our commitment to student wellbeing, inclusive practice, and continuous improvement.
Our Values
Everything we do at the Institute of Medicine is underpinned by five core values:
Inclusion — We celebrate diversity and are committed to equity in access, experience, and outcomes for our students and staff.
Compassion — We create a supportive, respectful environment where students and colleagues can thrive.
Integrity — We uphold the highest standards of professional and ethical practice in everything we do.
Ambition — We are a young and growing institution with bold aspirations — for our students, our research, and our community.
Partnership — We work collaboratively across disciplines, organisations, and sectors to make a meaningful difference.
Why Join Us?
This is a rare opportunity to join a medical school at a genuinely exciting stage of its development — established enough to offer stability and structure, but early enough that you can shape how things are done. You will work alongside a committed, collegial clinical team and have real scope to grow as an educator. We invest in our people. You will be supported in your professional development — including towards a formal teaching qualification — and welcomed into a culture that values every member of staff.
Closing date: 26th June 2026
