Category Buyer
Altrad are currently on the lookout for a Category Buyer to join the business to develop and deliver category strategies that support business objectives, maximise value, manage supply risks, and drive supplier performance across designated spend categories. The role will work closely with Operational teams and other key stakeholders across the business to ensure effective sourcing, contract management and supplier engagement.

Altrad are currently on the lookout for a Category Buyer to join the business to develop and deliver category strategies that support business objectives, maximise value, manage supply risks, and drive supplier performance across designated spend categories. The role will work closely with Operational teams and other key stakeholders across the business to ensure effective sourcing, contract management and supplier engagement.
Key Deliverables
- Develop and implement category strategies aligned to business objectives and operational requirements
- Lead sourcing and tender activities across multiple business units through to contract award and implementation
- Manage designated categories of spend including goods, services, plant, and equipment hire
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders to understand business requirements, demand forecasts, and operational priorities
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction, supplier consolidation, value creation, and process improvement
- Lead supplier relationship management activities to improve commercial outcomes, service levels, innovation, and performance
- Monitor supply market trends and identify potential risks, opportunities, and mitigation strategies
- Support vendor pre-qualification and ensure supplier compliance with organisational policies and standards
- Maintain procurement contracts, supplier records, and ERP master data accurately and efficiently
- Produce regular reporting on savings delivery, supplier performance, and category activity
- Mentor and support junior team members, contributing to team capability and development
- Proven experience within procurement or category management
- CIPS qualified (L4 Min) or working towards qualification
- Demonstrated experience managing tender processes and sourcing programmes
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to analyse pricing, margins, total cost and commercial risk
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Working knowledge of commercial terms and conditions and their application within procurement contracts
- Experience managing supplier relationships and contract performance
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability with the ability to assess the wider business impact of decisions
- Good understanding of supply chain management, procurement processes, and logistics
- Proficiency in ERP systems, Excel, and procurement reporting tools
