Job Description

What if you could do the kind of work the world needs?

At WSP, you can access our global scale, contribute to landmark projects and connect with the brightest minds in your field to do the best work of your life. You can embrace your curiosity in a culture that celebrates new ideas and diverse perspectives. You can experience a world of opportunity and the chance to shape a career as unique as you.

A Little More About Your Role...

As an experienced engineer in your own right, you will want to take a step up and lead an already high-performing team of engineers and hydraulic modellers. You will define, manage, and deliver solutions to a wide range of complex urban drainage problems, providing advice and guidance across the business as well as applying your own technical skills to projects of local and national importance.

  • We are looking for an Associate to provide leadership on a range of urban drainage projects; know the standards and how to apply them - but also recognise when a different solution is required.
  • Provide support to the team lead in managing project delivery, including supervision of tasks and review of deliverables
  • You will develop the urban drainage modelling capability in the team, ensuring we are at the forefront of latest developments in the discipline, and provide training and development support to more junior members of the team
  • Provide technical input on urban drainage projects and support our wastewater team in delivering current and future projects and help influence our future approaches to efficient delivery
  • The role will enable you to further develop and use your technical skills, applying your expertise to help us continue driving forward in terms of both technical quality and service efficiency
  • You will exercise independent engineering judgement and have opportunities to provide innovative solutions to engineering problems. You will be a proactive and collaborative team member
  • Lead people: take responsibility for growing and developing a high-performing team, providing line management and mentorship to maximise everyone's career development
  • Develop and maintain excellent client relationships at all levels, coordinating and facilitating project meetings internally and with clients
  • Develop and submit successful proposals to bring work into the team, both through existing frameworks, and from new client relationships
  • Promote the WSP brand through appropriate industry forums and conferences
  • You will contribute to the learning of the wider team through knowledge sharing exercises

YOUR TEAM

As an Associate within the high-performing WSP Urban Drainage team you support the leadership team in shaping its ongoing development. The team comprises a mix of engineers and hydraulic modellers with a wide range of industry experience, and services projects across the full spectrum of WSP's client base.

  • You will work as part of a dynamic and award-winning water team within a wider team of over 750 professionals network across the UK supported by our Global Water Team and have the opportunity to shape the direction of a high performing, growing team
  • We are currently working across an expanding portfolio of work with a number of our Regulated Water Clients including Northern Ireland Water, Irish Water, Severn Trent, Scottish Water Horizons, Welsh Water and Southern Water
  • As an Associate the opportunity to progress to Associate Director and beyond is a real possibility, combining your technical and industry knowledge with the right behaviours to encourage and develop others in order to get the best from them

What We Would Like You To Demonstrate...

  • A relevant degree and chartered, or significantly progressed on your journey in pursuing qualification with ICE, IEI, IoW or CIWEM
  • Able to demonstrate clear and successful experience of wastewater hydraulic modelling (InfoWorks ICM) and an ability to check the technical outputs of others prior to issue
  • A good working knowledge of Water Industry Specifications, Code of Practice for the Hydraulic Modelling of Urban Drainage Systems and relevant British Standards

Dont quite meet all the criteria? Apply and we can see how your experience could align to other roles in the team.
