The Opportunity

In this role as Assistant Technical Manager, you’ll lead and support the technical agenda on-site—ensuring compliance with food safety, quality, and legal standards across all operations. With a hands-on approach and a sharp eye for detail, you’ll oversee the QA and Technical Services teams, manage site systems like HACCP and internal audits, and work closely with both suppliers and customers to uphold high standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and develop the QA and Technical Services teams to deliver against technical KPIs.
  • Maintain and continuously improve HACCP, Quality Management Systems, and internal audits.
  • Ensure the site retains key accreditations (BRC, customer standards) and is audit-ready at all times.
  • Work closely with suppliers to manage approvals and risk assessments for raw materials and packaging.
  • Collaborate with customers and external bodies on all technical matters.Oversee product specifications and artwork to ensure compliance with legal and food safety requirements.
  • Deputise for the Technical Manager when needed and manage departmental budgets and health & safety.

This role demands strong chilled food and bakery experience, the ability to juggle competing priorities effectively, and excellent communication skills to engage confidently with external partners and internal stakeholders alike.

  • Strong technical and quality experience in chilled food manufacturing—bakery experience is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to drive and uphold high standards across food safety and quality systems.
  • HACCP and Food Safety qualifications (minimum Level 4).
  • Experience with BRC, TFMS audits, and retailer technical systems.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
